The Initial Challenge
Remove and replace all existing roof coverings with like for like materials working alongside English Heritage with an extremely strict and non-negotiable deviations. Working eight stories up using mechanical hoist for all materials with extremely strict working conditions as all debris & waste materials were quarantined immediately due to the building being occupied for the full duration of the works.
Solution
The materials removed had to be replaced using the exact codes of lead where lead had been removed, sections of lead had to be replaced leaving some sections in situ where intricate lead was embedded into the existing Portland stone. All the existing slates were condemned by English Heritage and ultimately replaced using the extremely specialised West Moreland Green Random width sizes and Random lengths sizes and secured to new treated battens in diminishing courses.
Results
The end result was a very satisfied client and English Heritage representative, CWI are extremely pleased with the results & furthermore looking forward to the next phase.
